DJ HARVEY PRESENTE LOCUSSOLUS

If there is an artist that we heard a lot about without knowing who he really was, it has to be DJ Harvey. Agoria talked to us about him, so we decided to look over his work, and what a fantastic coincidence : here he is, with a new release under a new name… Feedback.

Harvey basset (his family name) is exactly the kind of umo (unidentified musical object) staking our Itunes without belonging to any particular category.

At first he was a drummer in a punk band during its teens, then as recognized dj of the English scene he was adored for his Sarcastic Disco parties (especially in La). This artist has fashioned an eclectic universe (to say the least) made by influences from all backgrounds.

In 1995 he created his label Black Cock Records and released vinyls (re-edit of the old) that are now real treasures.

Garage, disco, house, psychedelic punk rock, dj Harvey has touched everything and did it well. His latest solo project LOCUSSOLUS comes out on the Uruguayan label International Feel. It is a condensed summary of the influences of his two decades of career, firmly established to a futuristic dance floor. Presentation.

11 titles including 3 remixes plus a re-edit dub version by Harvey himself, the kind of album that takes its full meaning when listening from the first track to the last one.

We discover from the very first title 'gunship' one of the key track of the album, a rhythmic that rank among funky house and disco, samples of distorted guitars, ambient sounds, a beautiful introduction that guarantees us an album made with various influences.

'Little Boots' the second track confirms it with a sample of voices on top of it. While remaining fairly minimalist, Harvey oscillates between rhythmic tracks a little bit disco such as 'Tan Sedan' to some sounds more groovy with 'Next to you' through heavier sounds with a slower rhythm like 'Bloodbath' or the dub version of 'Throw down'.

'I want it' introduced as another key title of the album is clearly the more representative of the entire album (with Gunship and Little Boots). A sort of minimalistic futuristic disco mixing samples of all kinds and piece of sentences.

The very good remix of Lindstrom & Prins Thomas does not depart from that,  more adapted for the dance floor, like the remix of 'gunship' by Andrew Weatherall, a little bit more percussive than the edit version of little boots by an emperor machine.

An album that in one hand is sometimes confusing but in an other hand is perfect for your swimming pool afternoon (if you are lucky), or your sweet nights.

Dj Harvey remains one of these wild birds impossible to classify and this is what constitutes his greatness.
